The Endurance Riders of Alberta (ERA) partnered with the Victoria Trail Agricultural Society (VTAS) to host a Youth Introductory Endurance Clinic earlier this month.
We welcomed 13 youth participants and 6 adults to the VTAS Indoor Arena for a half-day clinic. After a brief introduction, participants saw a video showcasing a sample endurance ride to help them understand what it is. The video also highlighted what to do and not do during an endurance ride to maintain a horse’s health and well-being.
Then, Dr Mellissa Gablehouse from Rochester talked about the various aspects listed on a vet card, how a vet check is conducted and how a trot out is done. We were very fortunate to have her in attendance!
All youth participants received a bucket filled with useful tools—brushes, scrubbing gloves, hoof picks and stethoscopes—to kick off their endurance riding.
A 5-mile sample ride will take place the weekend of April 18-19 in the Warspite area, 10km east of Waskatenau. All participants have been informed and are invited to attend.
Special thanks to Irene van der Kloet for coordinating this fantastic clinic!
